I don't know if it's already been mentioned but the Lingholme is currently being converted to flats. I also noticed that the old Plaza/Cindy's/Lowies/Orange House is now a carpet warehouse.

At the rate that it's going there will be nowt left.

The Lingholme......... mmmmm? Had my first underage pint in there, what a challenge, then would you believe two beat bobbies came in, looked around at each of us like the Gestapo and walked out again! Cheers!

THE cinemas went,, now just one multi screen,
THE old stores, going one by one,
THE family names that we grew up with are no longer.
THE pub has we knew it,replaced by night clubs,
WILL the churches be the next ,

Half of my senior school got demolished and the other half is now flats - that really did upset me .

My old Youth Club was demolished many years ago (church hall opposite Rothery's) :(.

Plaza - scene of so many wild nights out - now a Carpet Warehouse - sacrilege!!!

Such a shame about The Lingholme - worked there for a while and had great fun at the same time. My best friend had her 21st there and my brother even had his wedding reception there.

Luckily my old Infant/Junior School is still with us (original little Rivvy) :).

I felt the same when they demolished my old school ,Grange Park, it seems to leav,e a gap in your life, even more when the houses that you used to live in are no longer there .it makes you feel like a ghost, looking down
ST Helens is fast becoming a memory town,we who live in the town see the changes taking place, but it must be a shock when some of you out there return to your roots, its up to all us old codgers to keep the old town alive so that the younger ones know what it used to be like, many of the items you read on these sites you will not find in books,,i suppose in 80 yrs from now they will be saying
do you remember when that digital clock on the town hall used to have a big arm and a little arm ........or maybe when Liverpool FC used to be in the premier league,,,ha ha ( sorry )

If your old home is left standing you might have difficulty finding it. I went looking for my old house at the bottom of Alfred Street near Hardshaw Park, what a nightmare. I went round and round in circles, getting bigger and bigger. It must have took me 20 minutes. I did not know that there was so many one way streets around there. Is there a reason for this?
