The amazing Wilson? wasn't he some kind of immortal? What about sgt braddock VC the RAF bomber pilot.did sgts ever pilot planes?BTW Alf Tupper made his living by selling coal briquttes.Roy of the rovers(Melchester?)As for the American comics,i used to go to a stall in the old indoor market and spend hrs on a sat morn perusing them.i had 100's,mainlyDC superman.Bought a single for a shilling and every now and then paid half a doller for a compliation, wonder what they would be worth today.I've still got some 1960's Victor, wizard etc xmas albums in the loft,i'll dig 'em out and refresh my memory

You'd be amazed at how little they're worth Tessmop. I bought some 1930s Dandy and Beano comics at a collectors fair and they were just £2 each

I suppose that, in times of recession, there's less money available for indulging in 'collection-style hobbies' which just cost money.

While things like diy/crafts/grow-your-own all flourish because they help us to save/earn money.

There were Radio Fun and Film Fun. I think they disappeared in the early 50s if not sooner. Film Fun used to have regular comic strips of Old Mother Riley, the Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy etc. Radio Fun was as Skyman describes it

I used to get Hotspur, Hornet, Victor, Valiant Buster and Ranger (which later amalgamated with Look & Learn) My dad used to get just as much pleasure out of them as I did!

Remember my sister used to bring me one of the American ones home every Saturday when she got paid from her paper round - Superman, Batman etc
