Sammy died quite a few years back and the business was carried on by his son in law.The name/business was then sold on but was never the same despite keeping the name. The actual bakery was on the corner of Charles and Tolver st and had a few shops round the town.I have many fond memories of Sammy and if the topic continues.i'll post a few.

How sad, like many in the town I grow up going to Sammy's. My Nan lived across the road from the shop and it was a ritual to go to Sammy's when ever we visited. At her funeral we had to have Sammy's pies, remember him sitting in the back room he often gave us freebies because my Nan went in ever day and knew all the family well.

Lots of fond memories.

Might have been the best pies once upon a time and I can vouchsafe that they were good pies in the 70s, but when the original family bake house closed down and was taken over recently, they were nothing like the original. Pastry was thin and overworked and sasteless. Filling was short of seasoning.

We used to get steak pies from there in the 70's we called them suckers, we would bite one end and suck the juice out to save covering ourselves with it when we bit into the pie, they were brilliant back then.

Remember Sammy and have vivid memories. You could buy your pies and often be allowed a short cut through the back of the shop and see Sammy tending his brick ovens out in the yard! Almost Victorian eh?
