I saw the sign too and was both surprised and dismayed to see it closed,I remember when Rainhill hospital was closing and the same questions were being asked then, many were let out into the community, others were shunted around, it's unbelievable when these things happen and needy people must suffer

It looks as though there are some activities for older/vulnerable people etc that take place at the United Reform Church - next door to Windle Pilkington House.

Old Mavis would be turning in her grave if she knew what has gone on there. The Local Authority run the place and hardly spent a penny on it for many years letting it get rundown and as usual when it comes to bring it up to date they put it down to cuts by Government. They always look to take out the services they hope will create political gains for themselves and couldn't give a toss with regards the folk that use these facilities.

your right Dave,i know /knew quite a few poeple who went there for an hour or two.one of them became quite a good painter while he was there,,artistic i mean, and they used to have a game of cards or doms. what right have the council got to just decide to close these places down, we see expensive stadiums being built yet we cant spare i little cash for places like this,
during my time in the forces like millions more i was just a number, when we reach that certain age do we just become a number once again,,,
