A few years ago I was looking through some maps upstairs in the Gamble when I came accross one of St. Helens Town Centre and outskirts. All the main factories were highlighted with All of Pilkington works matked out in ink. What was intiguing about these maps is that they were printed in Russian language. I have no idea how the library came to have them but I was assured that they were genuine. And of course they are still there if anyone cares to check out the facts for themselves.

How interesting!
Wonder why they appear to have been fascinated with the Rugby Club? Some multibillionaire oligarch considering a Takeover Bid?
According to that map, the railway line from Town Centre to Triplex was still there in 1984 - anybody know if it was? I can't remember when it was removed as I wasn't living in StH at that time.
There's also lots of open spaces labelled in capital letters - wonder what those words are? I can make out the word 'Toll Bar' written on Grange Park Golf Course
.
As well as Pilks factories being 'blacked out', so are the buildings between Boundary Road/Eccleston Street/Railway Branch line.
