Ponds and quarries in St Helens

Just two at random:
Just up from where Hard Lane joins City Road there was a sandstone quarry on the town side of Hard Lane. At the side of it was a blue painted building housing crushing machinery to turn the sandstone into hardcore for building. On the other side of Hard Lane but a bit further up the hill was a pond where in the 1940s we used to catch newts
