Duke street photo HELP!

i own number 169 duke duke street which i bought in 1999, i'm trying to tracy all the buildings history, if anyone has any info or photographs that will be amazing......
the building is currently "tattoo chaos" when i bought it i believe it was being used as a bric-a-brac/ antiques type shop. could also have been a pet shop at one time?.......HELP!...thanks joe

Gaz Hutton had an Exotic Pets shop along there once. Not sure if it's the same shop.

I remember it being the bric-a-brac/antiquey type shop.

Once saw a lovely water colour of 'Windleshaw Abbey' in there - but being on benefits at the time, it was w-a-y out of my price range. I've never seen one like it since - more's the pity!

From the census

in 1911 169 Duke Street was a private house Mr Anders lived there total 3 males 2 females next door 167 was a shop, doesnt say which kind, a Mr Rimmer lived there

in 1901 169 was lived in by Frederick Ashcroft age 28 a sheet glass worker, Martha his wife and children John Albert age 6 Harold 3 and Mary 1, also there was a boarder named George Lunt age 33 a sheet glass worker born in Newcastle, next door at 167 was Mr Taylor a cab driver born in Cheshire and 168 Mr John Knowles Birchall age 41 a merchant tailor born Billinge, wife and 1 daughter

Going further back, if you look on the Trades Directories,
there was a Bootmaker living there in 1895.

There are a whole series of trade directories in the Archive Library which are likely to give you the history of that building.

They do not tally with the census years so that gives a different angle. Also they come largely upto date.

That shop was owned by Clifford Adamson,(Related by marriage) who originally came from Pocket Nook area.
