Is it true that Tabern's have gone? I heard that they had succumbed to cash flow problems and given up the struggle. Another old St. Helens haulage business bites the dust.

I know they laid some drivers off a few weeks back, but dunno if the firm has folded. Sad if true.

I'm not a driver or have even worked for Taberns, but they used to come to Fred Davies where I worked when they brought fibreglass in. I recall a few, although some of their surnames elude me. Between the early 1980's to the early 1990's I recall Johnny Hatton, Harry Hufter, Reg, Trevor and Dave driving the luton type vehicles. there will have been many more probably, but these are the ones I recall personally.

Harry Ireson from Royal Grove Ravenhead worked for Taberns from just after the war until he retired in the 80s. I think he was foreman when he finished.

Sad that. I met all the brothers - and their sons - painted the garage and worked at the home of the one who went on to die in the exploding tyre incident. :(
