One man with an ego that dwarfed his judgment and a weak Board of Directors who let him get on with it, I'm afraid. They'll rise from the ashes as they have been doing with monotonous regularity over the past forty years.
A heart-breaker for me personally as I put my heart and soul into that club for five years up to 2003. It had integrity, a strong Board, a good squad of players and a minimal overdraft after five years of collective struggle after the previous cock-ups of the early 90s - which were also a result of one man's ego and a weak Board.
Sugar Daddies? I've shat em

dangerous des had the nerve to slag off widnes after the 2009 NRC saying that we cheated by playing 3 dual reg players! really for me it is poetic justice that barrow have been found guilty as everyone with half a brain knew that there were shady dealings at the club to sign the likes of jamie rooney and ned catic. when will clubs learn that going for shit or bust will come back to haunt you in the end, leigh are another example, already docked points for breaking the cap now they are in dire financial trouble. and mark my words featherstone will be the next club!!!!
for me the widnes model is the one all clubs should adopt, build the club from bottom to top and then build the team later. if steve o'connor was so inclined we would have assembled a team to storm the championship season after season, but instead he put his efforts into making the club a going concern...

I feel really sorry for the supporters of Barrow. They're good honest people who are passionate about their rugby and its heritage. It's a community-owned club with thousands of ordinary shareholders and plenty of safeguards in place to prevent any one person from owning the club. Unfortunately those safeguards were unable to foresee a weak board that allowed its chairman to run it into the ground.
They're just fortunate that the same community own Craven Park so it cannot be sold off as happened at so many other clubs
