Wondering if anybody has any thoughts on where Scotch Row(e) could have been in Prescot 1841. I did wonder about Scotchbarn Lane .........

Maybe a Streets and Places List for Prescot would be a good Idea - along the lines of the one for St.Helens.

ooops - my mistook Posted Image. After all that, it turned out to be in St.Helens after all. Somewhere in the Liverpool Road, Gin Lane, Eccleston Street on the North side of Liverpool Road.

There's another thread on here asking the same question Ollie.
When I read the last thread I looked all over the maps in the location you say and there was no sign of Scotch Row.

Hi NSSO & Le - I got the Scotch Row address from the 1841 Census - then checked the description of the area that's given on the Census for Section 23. That's where I got that list of roads from.

I've checked all the maps - talk about 'fine tooth comb' - almost gone cross-eyed with trying!

I've learned something though - just fancy Boundary Road once being called Gin LanePosted Image - I wonder if that changed around 1868 when St.Helens Borough was created.

I've just been for a Forum Search and found the previous thread - thanks for that pointer Le. Exactly the same as in my situation - the following Census shows the family living in Eccleston Street.

Just an idea - wonder if there was a row of houses in Eccleston Street that was originally known as Scotch Row - :hmm:

That's what I thought at the time but there's no proof so it was pointless mentioning it really.

I've been bogeyed many a time scouring maps
