By the way Mal, my aunt and uncle lived in Chatsorth Rd,numb er 42 about 4or five houses away from the post box on the corner of Norcliffe Rd, there name was Keenan , Harold and Mary, Harold worked for Runcorn Development as it was called then and Mary worked in the BICC canteen on Warrington Rd. Its sad that they have pulled the old canteen buildings down last week, there will be none of Prescot left soon the way they are going on, My brother still lives in Brancker Ave opposite Norcliffe, by the way i saw Ronnie Lyons in HSL last week, he still lives in Second Ave.

My Mother used to talk about going to dances at the Oddies in Rainhill Rd. in the forties and fifties. Does anyone recall when it closed and became offices??

Les I was born right facing the Oddie's in Roby cottages, I can't remember when it changed to offices, but it was used for something else before offices, I think in the 70's.

Mal, before it became offices ,but after the dance hall, I think it was some sort of clothing factory. I remember delivering there in the late 60's early 70's.

Skyman I was only little in the 50's but I seem to remember that the stage was about 6ft from the level of the floor, is that right??? or was that because I was only small then.???? You have missed the Reeve Hall from your list Skyman

leschip. I never Danced there ,dont know why.
Rainhill School was my favourite at that time Every Saturfay night ,perhaps because Food was rationed and the Ladies who organized the Dance always managed to save a Cream & Jam Sandwich cake and some sausage rolls at Refreshment time for me and my mate,we were hungry growing lads then..Posted Image

Hi Mal. it was interesting to hear from Geoff and yourself that Ruth is still knocking about in Rainhill. Last time i saw her was in the 70s, she was seeing a lad called Jimmy Mac from Liverpool, Heres a interesting one for you and Geoff, I was in Lytham St annes last week and bumped into a man and his missus, we got talking and he said he originated from Rainhill but now lives in Burtonwood. His name was Alan he said he lived in Second Avenue and he knew the Moss's. He mentioned his surname but ive forgotten it, he also knew the Lovetts, and he said Joey Waterhouse was a good friend of his, he also said that his family was large, can you or Geoff shed any light on who it might be?If i hear his surname mentioned again i would know it.

Hi Al and Geoff, asked loads of people about this lad and finally got an answer from Terry Parr, the lads name was Alan Irwin,or Unwin, he was a big lad, can't remember him myself but Terry assures me that's who it was.

Alan Irwin, was in our year Mal. In a previous post I got his name wrong and said it was Irving. May help to jog your memory Alan was in charge of the biscuit shop. Not really a shop just a window overlooking the playground. Posted Image hope that helps. He was always gretted by "give us a Hunty, Irv" Hunty being a choccy covered biccy cost 4d. Bloody sad the things I remember :(

Good one Les, I remember that window, was never really a one for biscuits myself, I suppose the Hunty, was a reference to Huntley & Palmers, ??

Spot on with Huntley & Palmers. If memory serves me correctly the window was in John Deans classroom.
