Hello,

I have combed the Lancashire Parish Records site but the burial records seem to be incomplete. Does anyone know whether there was a municipal cemetery that was used as well as the churchyards for burials in the early to mid 1800s? The families I am looking for are from Prescot, Rainford, Windle and Maghull mainly.

Thanks

Guinevere

The simple answer is that in the mid-1800's, there were about 6 burial grounds in Prescot. These can be seen dotted around the town on old maps.

I don't know where records of any of them are, apart from the main St Mary's, most of their records being at Lancashire Records Office

Thank you Phyll and Stephen for your replies.

I maybe need a trip to the Lancashire records office with a list of things to look up as I'm really struggling with several burials which I hope might yield some useful information.

I had searched on the first two of the sites mentioned but I didn't know about the third one so thanks for that.

Guinevere
