Just driven past the Horseshoe. It's all tinned up,and set to be redeveloped as a Tesco Express. I have also been told that the Green Dragon is about to follow suit.

Welcome back Les, hope you had a good time, that's bad news two very old pubs like that, but it is not surprising, considering people can't afford to go out like they used to, and all the cheap ale in the supermarkets, so basically it will be The Carr's,the labour club and no other pubs in Whiston, unless you wish to go down Lickers Lane, :yikes: did you have some Kipper's????? :fish1:

Sad, but when was the last time any of us went into either pub?

For me, it's about 25 years since I went to the Dragon and even longer since I was in the Horseshoe

I have never been a regular pub goer, the last time I went into a pub in Prescot, I was charged 17 bob for two pints and two shorts = quite outrageous!
What pubs are left in Prescot?
The Imperial opposite the station?
The Engine at the bottom of Sewell St?
Bath Springs?
Eagle & Cild
The Oak (or was it the Oak Tree/Royal Oak?
Hope & Anchor?
Hare & Hounds?
The British Soldier?
The one at the top of St Helens Rd?
Wasn't there one called the Plough?

Deane's House
Is the Red Lion still open these days?
The Fusilier
Wellington (at Lane Ends)
Print House Wine Bar and Restaurant (old Reporter Office)

Bath Springs? OPEN
Eagle & Child CLOSED
The Oak (or was it the Oak Tree/Royal Oak?) ROYAL OAK, STILL OPEN
Hope & Anchor? OPEN
Hare & Hounds? OPEN
The British Soldier? LONG SINCE CLOSED
The one at the top of St Helens Rd? THE FUSILIER, STILL OPEN
Wasn't there one called the Plough? CLOSED
The Sun OPEN
The Clock (Face) OPEN
That Irish one on the hill (just can't remember it's name - used to be The Old Mill) VICTORIA - OPEN
Deane's House - OPEN
Is the Red Lion still open these days? NOT SURE
The Fusilier AS ABOVE
Wellington (at Lane Ends) OPEN
Print House Wine Bar and Restaurant (old Reporter Office) OPEN

Missing from the above was The CROWN, now CLOSED I think.

And of course there are a few clubs where you can have a drink; Reform Club, Guild Hall, The Manor...any more??

When I drove through Prescot on Sunday evening, there were quite a lot of pople out ana about, and the Hope and Anchor, Fuslilier, Tommy Halls and the Royal Oak all had quite a few people stoood outside having a smoke.

Agreed. As I said earlier, when was the last time that any of us went into those pubs? I know that it's generally a younger audience that they cater for, but where do we all go for a pint these days? If at all !!

Is the Imperial opened again, does anybody know? I heard that it might reopen now that there were housing developments around there, but it was just a rumour. My mum was a barmaid in the Imp for about 15 years.

Now that I live in Warrington, I tend to go to the Seven Woods and or the Memphis Belle at least once a week. Occasional visits to the Swan in Winwick (but I drive there and don't drink), and the same for the Micklehead Green. Was in there last week, might pop in again next week.

So no real "stand at the bar and have five or six pint" type sessions, just occasional visits for a drink or two, usually when eating.

The Crown is now an Indian Curry House. Mal yip to the kippers, brought a box of Moore's finest back with me, only 11 pairs though. Also brought back 2 boxes of Davison's Hand Made Manx Chocolates for Joan aka Mrs Leschip :ohyeah:

TL

Yeah, that's the one. Come out of our road and turn right and the Seven Woods is five minutes away. Turn left and it's the same distance to the Memphis Belle. The first is good for a pub lunch, few pints, watching the match, the other one is good for carvery or restaurant meal
