As there are a goodly few new members, may I take this opportunity to bring to your notice the books of a local author, Geoff Lee.
He has written 4 books
One Winter
One Spring
One Summer
One Autumn
They are best read in that order, most libraries will get them. Set in our area they are as warm as an "Uncle Joe" and anyone reading them will recognise a least one character, that they have encountered in life.
Enjoy :thumb:

Ooooh !...they sound very interesting :)
I'll begin my search for the books. In that winter of 62/63 I was living in Rainhill, I remember it all vividly.
My dad worked at BICC in the 40's, I think that is where he met my mum :(

Phyll/Clancy, they are brilliant reads. Anyone reading Thelma's Story chapter and is dry-eyed after it is an emotional eunuk :) The whole series captures our area from the 60's to the 90's. Les

Oh, here it is, I've looked all over the place for this topic, sorry Les
I've looked at how to order and I can see that 'Winter' is still in print.
The only problems is that I don't have a cheque book  ....cheques are becoming rather scarce over here.
I'll try to get in touch with the gentleman and see if there is any other way.

Well 'One Winter' arrived earlier this week and I am now three quarters of the way through it.
I am thoroughly enjoying it and especially when I come across places or names which I remember, especially
all those Saints players.
You are right Les, Thelma's story is very moving...I've been through that myself (Christmas alone), so I
could certainly relate to her.
It doesn't sound like those draftsmen got much work done, I am enjoying their escapades at work...and outside
of it.
Thanks for recommending the books Les, I'll now order the other one which is still in print and available :)

Cracking thread & the books look good. Just ordered Winter, Summer & Autumn from Amazon (for £17) - can't find Spring on Amazon or Ebay so will have to get it from the library :thumb:

sthwales....I have just ordered 'Spring' 'Summer' and 'Autumn' from Amazon.com.
They have it in stock at Amazon.co.uk but they said they couldn't deliver to my address
I have no idea why as I get lots of books from there.

I have finished 'One Winter' and I really enjoyed it...and all the characters. Think I recognised myself :o

Thank you Les, very much.

Well I didn't know that  . So now I need to ask him...."Are you Alan" ?
Seriously, I really did enjoy 'One Winter', so many memories of where I lived.
I look forward to receiving the other three books :)

Skippy has just informed me that he knew Geoff was Knowsley Road Schoolboy and has known
for quite some time. He obviously didn't want to pay for the books so he waited until I came across them
as he knew I would want them

Well I knew Geoff was Knowsley Road Schoolboy, in fact he told us on another thread. Can't wait to read his books.
