Whilst out walking over a few years back, I unearthed a couple of what I presume to be old, local mineral bottles. One is a brown glass with the name Hayes & Conning Ltd, Rainhill on it. The other is clear glass, and has J Twist & Sons, St Helens, and the phone number given as 2708. Anyone remember either firm, work there, have any pics, or know how old these bottles might be? I am guessing they are from the 1950's, but as I was not born until later, a guess is all it is. Anyone be more specific?

I remember Twists selling pop in the early 50s. They used to sell small bottles which held about half a pint and they were 3d each

Cheers mate; a lot of good info where you directed me. Any idea when it shut down? One of the posts mentioned it was open as late as 1976.

Yeah, the bottle I found is only about 250ml, or 300ml I think.

Eddie it was still open in 1976, I played football for Rainhill Town and we had the first Gala that year and you know it was a sweltering summer we had to contact the owners and get them to open the factory up so we could get a truck load of pop, because we had run out.Thinking of your bottles my Auntie who worked at H&C with mu mum and dad, still as one of the first Soda Syphons they ever made, still in perfect condition.Mr Hayes was married to Mr Connings daughter, or vice versa can't really remember now, glad you got some info off the other post, noticed you only joined Connect in Feb hope you are enjoying it. :thumb:

Here's some from my collection. The green Twists beer, i've never seen a full one of these yet! I also have a H&C Barm Beer too that I forgot to photograph.

The condition of this is by far the best i've ever seen on one of these, as if it just rolled off the factory yesterday.
