Hi there Billingecelt, your posts are really welcome and interesting.
Your last post is one such.
What do you mean by "Roman buffs" and "Roman evidence"?
Hello HORT thanks for the comment ,yeah what i mean is i know there is a little Roman archaeology in the bounds of this town not just the small tract of Roman road a49 that was visible until covered. If you ever have the chance to go to Chester and have a look at the river Dee at the side were they mined red Sandstone Romans used tons of it.Well theres plenty of that stuff ere ie 'Red rocks/railway escarpments/and more.Romans needed raw materials and this town the area its in has loads. The buffs im on about keep shtum about it .My brother in law is one of them lol hes keepin his metal detector primed ive mentioned all the places im pretty certian are the best candidates but he wont budge.Romans were excellent surveyors they left no stone unturned.A recent find was a toll gate in Dalton other side of ashurst beacon quite a few coins from 2 nd century ,a Roman canoe/boat on Martin mere.
p.s Talkin to the archaeologists when they uncovered a roman hypocaust under what is now the new shopping arcade, they said they might have to rethink the significance of Wigan given the archaeology ie it may have been on a scale with Wroxeter which was a market trading center of some importance.
