#30 thanks for the view of Harris St - it also looks ss though Harris St is now one way - it certainly needs to be - in 1977 when I first went back to St Helens (stayed with my aunt in Greenfield Rd and walked down to another Aunt's in Harris St - I put my hands up to my head when I first entered the top end of Harris St - I felt as though all the houses were closing in on me. It is hard to imagine that all the kids in the street used to play in the street and the entries every night - 'Tin Can Alley" and 'Delalio" . I also rememberwatching theCoronation in Pickavances front room along with a lot of other people from the street.
My son was in St Helens in April this year and he made the same comment - that Greenfield Rd and Harris St were much narrwer than he remembers from 1977.
Alan - Boardmans was there before Lewis's. When old Mrs Lewis sold the shop and Joan got married, they moved behind us in Eccleston and yes the lady did wear a floral frock. Penningtons had the corner shop opposite Lewis's.
Have to go to work now

Alan my husband also wanted a suit from Coalmans to get married in. They were so expensive that they had to be for a special occassion unless your name was Onassis. Ithink that all the streets and especially the parks seem a lot shorter and smaller than they appeared when we were young. :thumb:

I might have to concede defeat on Bradleys as you can see it in the photo (still think it was called something else later on).
What was the name of the carpet shop next door? I know that one, they had Commer vans with the name on the side.
