What's this large house?Liverpool Road

It's down the the hollow at the side of the Manchester Road junction with Liverpool Road. It's a big old place and looks as though it was built by somebody with plenty of money.

When I was about 10 ish we used to play round there as well as Brown's Field. One of the girls lived in that house and I remember going in it - can't remember anything particular about it except that to me the rooms looked huge - it is over 50 years ago !!
Google tells me it was built in 1803 and once was the home of the Lawson family

Only one Oliver Cromwell, but so many tales about his deeds/misdeeds.
I, for one, was convinced that he'd blown Windleshaw Chantry to pieces (with a canonball from Billinge Lump) just because my grandad told me so - my grandad knew EVERYTHING, my grandad did

When I was at school (1950's) I used to be friends with a classmate called David Potts and he lived there.
He often invited me down there but i never went.I was terrified of the huge WHITE alsation they had called CARL.
