I was born in Hamer St, St,Helens on the 30th of September 1938, this was the night that Neville Chamberlain flew from Munich after his meeting with Hitler
declaring Peace In Our Time. As a result of this I was nearly christened Neville; still it could have been worse I could be called Adolf !

Hi exile, I would have imagined that would have been the fate of many of the boys born in England at that time lol

Although I was always under the impression I was born in the Maternity Hospital at Cowley Hill, I recently has to get a full copy of my Birth Certificate (previously I onlly had the "short" version) which stated my place of birth as St Helens Hospital

I was born in Cowley Hill in August 1949 the first of my mams 5 children
The other 4 where all born at home
My eldest was born in Warrington hospital (I having moved to Earlestown which at that time was thought of as part of Warrington)but the youngest was born at home (1971) so it seems that home births where still common into the 1970s
