When I was born in 1951, Sister Monk was in charge at the old Whiston Maternity. My mum has told me stories about her - how she adored all the babies, but didn't like the mums very much at all.

One story was about how she could walk down the ward with two babies in each arm, talking away to each of them, before depositing them with their mothers for feeding.
That sounds about right Ollie, I also heard about her adoring the babies but not caring too much for the mothers.

This was 1942. It may have been a privately run place, I haven't a clue. I'll check my Birth Certificate to see if there's any more detail on it.

Later, it's recorded as "Ingleside", Prescot Road, Toll Bar etc

I am looking for an Ingleside Nursing Home in Prescot Road also. It was still privately run in 1945 when I was born. My birth cert just says "Ingleside" Prescot Road U.D. Do I have the right place and if so is it still standing please?

It is still there WinterWine and run as a budget B&B - I live close by and pass it every day. The exterior hasn't changed much over the last 60 years though I've never been inside Posted Image

Yes, thanks from me too Kizzy, that's where I was born. I'd often wondered if it was still there
