What was the name of that camping shop down the alleyway opposite Woolies in Eccleston St.It was the only place in the 60's where you could buy Wranglers.Been driving me mental trying to remember the name.

I think it was "Amazon", they used to have a site for their tents at Rainford, just off the bypass.

Wasn't it "Hugh Lewis" or something similar. I know exactly the one you mean.

There were eventually two clothes shops on Eccleston Street in the 1970's where you could buy Wranglers, Ben Shermans, etc. One at either end of the street, but I can't remember weither of the names !!

Dead on ste,Hugh Lewis.They sold some good quality gear,mainly Blacks of Greenock.

I stand corrected, it was Hugh Lewis but I still think it was called Amazon Works or something along those lines.

I think you're right there, Dan. Something down that little alley was called "Amazon"

If i remember right there used to be a firm there called Amazon.It was a rope works,my brother Des worked there for a short while.

Jim Davies here from Perth Western Australia your not to far of the mark it was the old Amazon works the business was named Hugh Lewis and it was managed by Richard Myers he was also the captain of the Church lads brigade along with Rob & Alf Taylor i spent many a happy hour with Richard in the shop and also hired tents from him I also spent many years in the Church Lads Brigade playing the bugle

Hiya Jim,
I also blew the bugle in the CLB. You may remember me as Les. Birchall. Richard was a smashing bloke and I too spent a lot of time in the shop and now and again delivered fliers around the town promoting special offers.

Hi Les sorry i cant place you but i catch up with Eddy Ball in Melbourne twice a year on business do you know him!! My brother Colin played the drum also i took part in the bugle championship and won got to play a silver bugle for a year!!
Stephen are you any relation to geoff brian and howard Nulty they are good freinds to me hope your all enjoying some warm weather in prescot!!

I bought a pair of walking boots there in 1967, had them for years.
My parents ran the camera shop at the end of Eccleston St

Rob and Alf Taylor.Was it them that had the Barbers shop on the corner of Manchester Road and Cross Lane well I think it may be Hall lane.
Also Alf Taylor ran our football team ''Dennet Athletic''.
