I guess this was the one to lose if we had to lose one.
Couldn't bear to let the Gooners get one over on us at Murrayfield next week.
(I'm not going because it's a crap stadium and I'm not overkeen on Edinburgh plus the whole thing is a rip-off IMO)
Worse would be Les Cats doing us over in the forthcoming CC match.

The match itself was quite exciting (apart from the times Saints looked like rabbits caught in headlights) and, at the end of the day, Bradford just wanted it more.
A couple of people have asked me did I think it was fixed.
Apparently, the odds on Bradford and Quins winning (against Leeds) was a massive 500/1.
I said, before we left home, that this could be the game we come unstuck.
And so it proved.
Mind, when I saw the draw for the FA Cup I remarked it would be an all blue final (meaning Everton v Chelsea).
And so it proved.

I'm over the moon that its coming to the Scottish Capital! I may not have lived in St Helens for a long time but I've indoctrinated my whole family here and we're looking forward to it. Rip off or not, I'm happy. 15minutes on the bus.

I am going. I certainly don't feel it is a rip off. We watch every match and thoroughly enjoy it.

That final when Saints lost 27-0 to Wigan. Was there any truth in the rumour that Saints threw it, or were they just shite?

Do you really want an answer to that question?

It's always intrigued me. I'd just moved back to Dentons Green, and set up the television. I remember that the teams were introduced to William Whitelaw, and I was appalled at the discourtesy shown to him by Saints. No more than you'd expect, I suppose. Some time later, I was walking up Cambridge Road. It was completely deserted, apart from myself and an old chap coming the other way. He didn't know me from Adam, but he addressed me thus: "Twenty-seven nil, lad. Ah corn't believe it." He was visibly shaken. Later, I learned the source of his disappointment. If Saints did throw the match for some reason, I believe they showed little respect for the ordinary people of St. Helens to whom their success or failure obviously meant a great deal. Personally, I couldn't care less, now or then.

I remember that game, I was devastated because most of the people who live around us are Wiganers ( I live in Ashton ), and all that following week their were notices and flags in peoples windows and large signs.....27-0 :( .

No more than some expected maybe. Personally, having met Dear Old Willie, as Thatcher condescendingly called him, I thought he was totally undeserved of his buffoonery image in the popular press and was a true caring gentleman who unselfishly served his country without a hint of sleaze. High-born he may have been but to me that's irrelevent in the measure of a man and his achievements

Coming back to CM's original point, Murrayfield may be old-fashioned but I know it's a matter of taste but I think it's a fantastic venue. Traditional, dignified and not up its own rectum like that Twickenham.

As for the person who queried the honesty of Saints' performance against Bulls, I'd say that the person CM met who believed the game was fixed when a full team was fielded had clearly never played the code or had anything to do with running it

There's the difference then, I'd be bored sh!tless watching any other team.
Can't even be bothered when it's on TV let alone the trek up North.
I totally agree with James Graham's point of view in The Times.
Scrap the weekend and play the games elsewhere.
Preferably in the North of England.

I was there and I recall a high kick by Wigan towards Connelly (full back) and as the followers up approached Connelly, just as the ball was coming down into his hands ----- he ran away from the ball and those who like pies also like tries especially when they are given on a plate. . Anyone else remember?

So was I HORT; my memory of it was of a straightforward knock-on. Connolly was playing in his debut from memory, it was the first kick-off of the game and the ball just went straight through his hands. How the lad ever recovered his confidence is a miracle
