In my tree I have:
- Ann Swift b 1783c in St Helens, who married William Corlett 20th September 1813 at St Mary's, Prescot - a possible daughter of George Swift, shoemaker of St Helens/Prescot & Mary Dweryhouse of Farnworth. Ann died in 1854 in Hindley
- Jesse Baldwin , a travelling salesman, b1796, St Helens, husband of Jane, father of Thomas (b1817c), Mariann (a.k.a. Mary Ann b 1817c), Elizabeth (b1821c) & James Swift (b1824)
On the censuses Thomas & Mariann claim to have been born in St Helens, Elizabeth just states Lancashire, while James says Preston (however I have a feeling he means Prescot)
I managed to find Jesse on the 1824 directory for St Helens, living at Hardshaw Hall
In 1841, he's still in St. Helens (Windle), but by 1851 he's in Birkenhead with Mariann. And obviously due to the nature of his job, in 1861 he's in Kendal.
In 1871 he dies in Standish, Wigan
Does these names ring any bells with anybody?
