Hi, Does anyone remember Frederick`s ice-cream factory, I believe it was on the corner of Kirkland Street and (I think) Grant Street, I would be interested to know if anyone had perhaps a picture, I used to go my aunt Tizzy`s who lived at the side of Frederick`s and she used to send me and my brother for a tanner slider (wafer), This was to get us out of the way why the family talked, this was about 40/45 years ago. I just wish I could remember more.
Regards Chrisitine.

Hi Chrissy, remember it well, standing just by that little white ice box whilst the old lady in her white overalls and wellies appeared from the back to produce some of the best ice cread around. As an aside I was on the leeds liverpool canal a while ago and as we passed by Chorley we read a sign for Frederick Ice cream parlour. It would appear to be the same firm looking at the photos on the wall [no sign of the factory in St Helens]. By the way it was Kirkland St and Napier St if my memory serves me right, and the ice cream in Chorley was nowhere near as good

There's a longish thread in archives on this subject. Probably about 2 to 3 years ago

My brother worked at Fredricks just after the war re.wiring the factory. They ,Fredricks had bought a job lot of ex army chocolate, it came in big square tins, they found they could not use it as the choc was too pure. They were letting the lads who worked on the electrics to take them home for a small fee, it was belting choc the likes of witch you cannot get today. There was about 50 bars to a tin, could have opened a choc shop.
