Does anyone know anything about the hotel on the corner of Prescot Road where you can fork off towards Thatto heath, opposite the benches near one of the entrances to Taylor Park?

Quite a grand building and i remember that the hotel has been there a long time - as long as i can remember (although i am only 25!) but yet there never seems to be many customers knocking about.

Has it always been a hotel or was it some rich businessman's residence in days gone by??

No, the Grange Park Hotel has bitten the dust and is now apartments. I think the reference is to that guest house at the left of the traffic lights as you turn into Lugsmore Lane. That used to be two large semi-detached houses when I lived nearby in the eighties. I believe that one or the other of the houses may have been that maternity clinic we were talking about some time ago - it was certainly in that row somewhere, I'm sure. At some stage, someone bought both houses and converted them into one premises as a guest house.

The Park Hotel at Toll Bar was a Maternity Nursing Home in the forties run by a lady called Nurse Saunders. My parents knew her and I loved to visit and see the babies - probably about six of them.

Here's a link to the Park View Hotel website - found their 'Fawlty Towers' music hilarious.

http://www.parkviewhotel.net/

The website links to reviews from Trip Advisor (http://www.tripadvis...de_England.html) - majority very favourable but just the ONE very disgruntled from quite a long time ago.
