A peculiarity of St. Helens dialect was the use of the word "starved" to mean "frozen," rather than hungry. Hence, if a cheap suit had a particularly short jacket, it was called a "bum-starver."

suzy, a jam buttie, always sorted it, another way was ,going too the chippy for your mam wi plates , and slancing most of um before you got home.
