Does anyone know the history of Burkhills cafe on the East Lancs at Carr Mill. When did it close, whats happening to it now. Must be a valuable site.

Also noticed the buildings around the car auction site, anyone know the history of this site.

Cheers

Used to belong to a man called Dave Seddon who had a haulage business (well at least one wagon) and a smallholding. He was, I think, related to the Montcrieffs who had the farm on Laffak Rd.

mcdonalds offered a fortune for it, he would prefer to leave it as an eyesore...i got me highest ever score on space invaders in there. it was owned by greeks who used to chase us out. once it became a restaurant for a few months. It was in a film starring lenny henry; coast to coast (i think).

I very much doubt it. Bob Burkhill had children older than me. If He's still alive he must be over 100

Burkills Cafe was a thriving transport stop for the lorries that went up and down the East Lancs Road during and after the war. Before the Lancs was made into a dual carriage way it was possible to to access the cafe from both sides of the road. ie much easier than it is now. It was always full of lorries, wagons of all types, and a favourite stop for the drivers going between Liverpool and Manchester when the docks were so important to our trade. In the days when servicemen and students hitch hiked around the country it was a great place to get a lift.

I don't know anything about it now but it had a glory time in the 1940-50's

Bobby Fish lived in the house next door to the parking ground..just a name from the past while you were taking about Lenny Lowe.

It was also used in another film - 'Blonde Fist' starring Margi Clarke and her sister Angela - directed by their brother Frank Clarke. About a woman who escaped from a women's detention centre, went to New York and took up boxing as a career move. Don't think it was much of a success.

i can tell you a true story as re.burkhills it was closed down in the 80s as regards hiegene, the carr mill pub had bookings for meals and the ranges and cooker were temporary out of order, what did they do,the manager knew burkhill it was opened up and guess what,8 women enjoyed their meal wheeled in the back way. truth.
