And, wasn't there a woman who used to live opposite Queens Park, just by the baths and she used to sell the most fabulous pies out of her house - then again I could have just overloaded on the sugar & be imagining this last bit!

You're not imagining this. I've been trying to think of the name of that shop. It was in the block nearer to The Lingholme than Wainwrights. A tiny little place with stuff in what was little more than a normal front window. The daughter went to Rivvi Road infants school. She'll be in her mid sixties now. It'll come to me later

The name escapes me at the moment - but I'll speak to my mother later - she'll probably remember the name.

It was between Hanson's Dairy and Dentons Green Lane, Alan - practically facing the side of the Spoggy. I'm sure that if somebody took a drive along Lingholme Road they would notice the front door step of this particular house - the step is higher than most - by that I mean that it had just the ONE step up instead of two. At the back of the house she had a storage area that looked like a huge shed/barn. It was past Smeltzer's - may have been next door to Mrs Hunter's.

I don't remember a shop on the corner of Hewitt Avenue and Rivington Road, but I do remember one on the corner right by Rivington Road School. That one was Gornall's - it was on the corner by the gates to the infants playground and the Senior School annexes.
Gornall's also had a shop at the City Road end of Hard Lane and a Car Hire business.

I was referring to the early 1950s.
