I don't know if anyone else noticed but when Nestles took over Rowntrees the Kit Kat's and the rest of their chocolate never tasted the same to me. Posted Image

Hi.Its not just the sweets that mattered it was the Health and Safety(who cared)-Uncle joes with fluff on from your pocket.the paper bag sticking to the toffee.trying to separate the bonfire toffee.dropping the toffee on the floor and then picking it up and wiping it on your trousers.sharing a big bar of toffee with your friends-no knives to separate just a good set of teeth.asking the shopkeeper for any broken biscuits.Putting a half sucked gobstopper back in your pocket for later.trying to get the wrappers off some sweets like ARROW BARS.Trying to wipe the black from around your mouth-oh those blackjacks.Being able to go in and ask for 2oz and not have to buy packs.

Yes Bridger,I noticed that, I think they have changed again in the past year, something my eldest grand-daughter noticed, she said the wafer part wasn't as crisp.I also think the size of chocolate bars like mars bars and milky ways have shrunk.

Or if you had run a few errands that day and were rewarded you bought a quarter of sweets.
Does anyone on here who lived around the Westfied Street area remember Mrs Hartley and her sweet shop it was next door to the Ringo-Bells-pub,she had snow white wavy hair and always opened on Sundays.

I've just received this e-mail from Mars ltd, regarding Opal Toffees

Dear

Thanks for getting in touch and I can confirm that Mars did produce Opal Toffees. They where available between 1965 and 1967.

Once again, thanks for contacting us and don't hesitate to get in touch about anything to do with our products and brands.

Kind regards,

One of my favourites in the fifties was the Range Rider lucky packets, the picture on the front was of a boy on a pony in a cowboy outfit with the pony rearing up and I think he had a lassoo in his hand.
you would get sweets and a toy, does anyone on here remember them?
