Parr Central is roughly in the centre of Parr.
.......
The term 'Central' school came about in the Education Act of 1902 which was about Secondary Education in England. The act abolished the old school boards - the term board school was still being used in the 1960's. The act also established Local Education Authorities - schooling by Central Government - hence the term Central School

That picture as brought back great memories.
The picture is the infants and junior school which stood behind the Church
The playground is where the car park for fingerpost is now.
Do's anyone remember Mr Sharrock (Who was the science teacher when I was in the senior school from 1960-1964)having the moped and charging 2d for a lap of the football field.
He also had about 6 sticks and his favourite saying (To me at least and much to often) was
"I am a very fair man, pick which one you want"
Other teachers I remember are:
Infants and Junior
Mrs James
Mr Glover (Who married Mrs James)
Mrs Campbell
Senior
Mr Rennie (woodwork)
Mrs Sudworth (Maths and all sorts)
Mrs Saunders (Art and I think cookery)
Also think Mrs Saunders was Mrs Sudworths daughter and have wondered if the St Helens artist Anne Sudworth is actually Mrs Saunders or perhaps now best part of 50 years on her daughter.
Forgot to ask in the above post if anyone has any of the school photos we had took every year.
My mum and dad actually bought most of the ones I and my sister who also went to Parr Mount where in and like most people kept all photos in Christmas biscuit / chocolate tins in the wardrobe. Unfortunately after my mum died in 1985 some !!!!!!! louse (Sorry lice)decided to breakin to my dads whilst he was enjoying his customery Sunday evening couple of pints. They took his telly, video etc which he did'nt give a fig about but they also took all the tins out of the wardrobe containing years and years of photos which of course are irreplacable and in the days before modern computer storage etc they where all one offs. (Negatives not being kept) So if anyone still has copies I would love to see them. I started 1953 in baby class, (Where you had a little bed to sleep in the afternoon) and left in 1964
Thanks

JFM, Sorry to hear about your family photos, as you said they are irreplaceable.
There are some school photos on Friends Reunited, but don't think they are the
right year. But you never know, you might reconnect with someone who has some.
