Looking for any information on James Kay born about 1845.
On the 1881 and 1901 census he was living at 12 Baxter Street, Parr. He married Tabitha Atherton on 24 Jun 1866 and they had 5 children, James, Peter, Emma, William and Edward.
Edward Kay, born about 1880, married Jane Topping and they are my great-grandparents (in fact I am named after Jane).
Janes parents were Joseph Topping and Jane (Unknown). They had 10 children Eliza A, Frederick, Bertha, Joseph, William, James, Harold, Jane, Ernest and May. On the 1881 census Joseph and Jane were living at 53 Lowe Street, Windle. In the 1895 Slaters Directory they were living at 14 Kirkland Street, St Helens and the same address is down for the 1901 census.
Also at the time of the 1901 census there was an Ellen Mather living with them. Her relationship is down as niece and she was 18 years old and a tailoress. I cannot find any information that links Mathers to Toppings or Kays so I am unsure from whose side of the family Ellen is from.
If anyone has any information I would be really pleased to hear from you,
Cheers,
Jane xx
