I think Charlie's real name is Chow Chu Fai, if I remember correctly. Yee Why used to have the laundry there; I can still see his name in the green painted window. Everyone thought it was dreadful when his premises were attacked following the incidents described above. He was a real gentleman.

Was that restaurant called the Sun Wah?

When my folks would take me and my kid sister to the Capitol picture house, we always went to the Chinese restaurant in Duke Street afterwards. It was a real treat in those days. I recall it was the Golden Moon, next to a butcher shop, then the Talbot pub. My dad always said the Chinese waiters were inscrutable. I always wanted one of those dragon lanterns, and they bought me one from some place in Liverpool for my birthday. I had it in my room at University, but somebody liberated it.

I'd forgotten the butcher's next to the Golden Moon (later the Hai Cheng?). It closed, and the restaurant expanded into its premises. When that butcher's was going, there was another butcher just across the road called Gerald Penketh, who was a close neighbour of ours. It struck me as odd that two butchers would trade directly opposite one another.

Ilived in Talbot Street, but I was only ten at the time so all this probably went over my head. Charlie is a really nice guy I went to school with him also and quite frequentlly went into the take away Chinese I think we went to his restaraunt once or twice pre kidslol. I'm trying to remember the name of the restaraunts There was a chinese directly opposite the theartre and I think that was called The Silver River and there was an Indian a bit lower down just before the pub can;t remember its name. The town has changed so much its hard to get your bearings lol
