  1. Saw the sad news posted on a lamppost today that Vincents Ice Cream factory in Crowther street is closed and three houses are to be built in its place. I have fond memories of this place as a child going for my penny ice lolly or a cornet. I have still bought ice cream from there recently and it was so much better than the supermarket stuff, a real taste of how ice cream should be. Every time I went in there it brought all those childhood memories flooding back as the place had changed little over the years. I particularly remember the little step up to the serving hatch which is still there that I used to stand on to get served. What a shame it is to go. I suppose it must have been hard with all the competition from supermarkets but its still sad to see a link with the past go. I had several conversations with the current Mr Vincent about the memories I have of the place and he told me a little of how the family came here and started the business. He also told me what goes into supermarket ice cream and they way they make it which explained why VINCENTS tasted so much better! I realise that things can't last forever, but it's still a very, very sad day for an ice cream lover!
  2. Hi Pam, so sorry to hear that Frances is no longer with us. Good to know you are are well though! They were good times weren't they, a time of innocence really, and given the chance I'd be happy to do it all over again!
  3. Hi Lancashire Lass, I remember your names, Frances Glover and Pam Brown, (which one are you?) and I've still got the newspaper cuttings put out when the press got hold of the story about wanting Ged to move about on stage! I've just posted info on the other thread that's on here about us, so hopefully you'll pick that up. The one thing I haven't got are any pictures of us on stage! If anyone has any I'd love to see them! And Grangeparker, I'm Terry. Norman Thomas was our manager for a while and got us some great bookings too! Three at the Cavern, which means we have our own brick in the wall of the Cavern Pub in Mathew Street! It's in the left side of the window next to the statue of John Lennon). I do hear from John occasionally, usually at New Year or the odd email, but haven't heard from him for some while now.

  5. I agree that parking is a problem at St Helens Junction but demolishing the station building won't help or solve it. There appears to be plenty of derelict land on the opposite side of the station in what was the fragmentation plant, so why not build a big car park there which would solve the problem! Railways are enjoying a renaissance at the moment and are victims of their own success, but they should have put the facilities in place BEFORE or at least at the same time as, trying to get more people on the trains. Hindsight, (a wonderful thing!) shows that if you build the car parks, the people will come!
  6. I can't understand why ALL the remaining original structures along this line aren't listed! The whole of the line should be a WORLD HERITAGE SITE - it was after all, the birthplace of railway intercity travel! If it's not too late to list the building at St Helens Junction then will someone with the knowledge of how to do it, please do it! We've already lost too much of St Helens history to the planners and this pathetic council!
  7. A subway under the road isn't a bad idea! Have you ever driven past Carmel when they're letting out! Feel sorry for all the residents on Prescot Road too, students parked all the way down on both sides of Prescot Road and down Eccleston Hill - shocking! Carmel should never have been granted planning permission for such a massive extension to it's site without having to provide extra parking. While I think about, I thought students didn't have any money, so how come they all arrive in cars!
  8. Hi all! Terry here. Nice to see The Incas are still fondly remembered! Most of the info is spot on, and just to confirm that Bob did die in 1995 and I have never lived in Manor Street!. Obviously I'm still around, and so is John Grogan who nows lives in Canada. I still play and until recently played with a member of another St Helens band and a couple from other 60's bands under the name The Fireflites. We are now in the process of forming another band with a girl lead singer! Stand by for more news on that! PS What's your connection to The Incas Lancashire Lass?
  9. Thank you. Now I know this towns full of morons!
  10. You're all right! Trouble is, and it's not just town centres but in lots of other areas as well, nobody can leave anything alone - even when there's nothing wrong they have to tamper with it - they're like dogs pissing on lampposts saying I was here - PATHETIC!
  11. Probably a Labour plot. The fact she sat right opposite them in Victoria Square so that every time they looked out of window she was there, must have offended their socialist ideology so much that they undertook to remove the offending object to a position well out of their gaze, thereby playing out what they'd like to do to the monarchy in reality! The removing of her crown being the symbolic dethroning of the monarch.
  12. Did they ever find out what happened to the crown from Victoria's statue in Victoria Square. I've seen a picture of the statue being moved to its present location and she was wearing it then! So come on! - Own up! Who's got it?
  13. Could be! I'm not 100% sure but I think you'll find Widnes, Wigan and Warrington are all labour as well, so how come they're not taken for granted?
  14. Now it's Warrington's turn! A £52 million rebuild of the Bridge Street area including a NEW market, cinema, etc., First it was Widnes, then Wigan and now it's Warrington. When will we in St Helens get a rebuild that every other town near us seems able to finance yet we are stuck with our outdated 60's town centre? Seems we're getting left even FURTHER behind! Without a similar regeneration here there's only one way this town is going - DOWN! Only today I needed to go to Wilkinsons. I thought I could park in Sports Direct, but no - if I leave the site i could be fined up to a £100! I thought you could park there free for an hour - when did that stop? To cut a long story short I went to Widnes where I can park for up to 4 hours free - even with the cost of petrol it was still cheaper than paying to park locally. is it any wonder the centre is dying!
  15. Here it is running down between Kirkland Street and Lowe Street.
