Joe, just tried to do a search to find the location on Google Earth, but Gauger's Row is sending me to Passadena in the USA, I'll try to correct and do a more refined search.

Thanks, as far as I'm aware, neither are still in existance so I don't expect Google Earth to show them. The references I have a 1870 for Gaugers Row, and 1919 for Bute House.

It's late now, but I'll get back to you on Gauger's Row. I think it was just down the road from Factory Row, and I'm sure there's a reference to it on this site somewhere. As for Bute House, if it was in Prescot Road in 1919, I'm reasonably sure it's still there. I used to live up there, and I think I used to walk past it. Some of the bigger houses have names, but the postal service recognises them by numbers these days. I doubt if any substantial property has disappeared since 1919.

Gauger's Row was in Crossley Road. There's a picture on the site if you search.
As Griff says, Bute House is on Prescot Rd backing onto Taylor Park. I don't know if they still have it but it used to belong to the Cothams tile people (shop in Duke St).

Just checked the telephone directory. Someone called Cottam is listed at Bute House, 270 Prescot Road, St. Helens.

We could do with making some kind of a FAQ article for places. I might change the code at some point to make it so that an article starter can allow a few collaborators. I suppose that it could be done by member numbers. I'll think about that over the weekend.
