Apparently scrums are considered too dangerous in school rugby. I imagine that when kids first start rugby in school that's one of the things they want to do - get stuck in there.
Tackling is considered the other dangerous thing. Well, it is, I suppose, but what on earth can you do about it? You can strictly impose the rules used in the adult game (high tackles etc) but apart from that..........

I'd tend to agree with scrums to be honest. Not so much an issue for Rugby League (were they're pointless) but in Rugby Union the scrum is absolutely horrendous as a kid, can be very dangerous when it collapses.

The rest of it I wouldn't read too much into, though my own "career" was cut short by injuries in school sports.

A rugby union scrum is a bit of a fetish that, even though at junior level is intended to be "uncontested" (ie no serious shoving), still has the capability of creating spinal damage.

Let the kids play Rugby League instead where the scrum is just a convenient way of keeping the forwards in one place to allow open play by the wings, backs and centres etc
